Looking for a Camp Manager (100%)

Leopard Ecology & Conservation (LEC) was initiated by Monika Schiess-Meier in 2000. The project promotes the long-term survival of leopard and lion populations in Botswana by integrating conservation and community education (It is not a tourist safari camp!). LEC works in Khutse Game Reserve and the southern parts of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Our research camp lies just outside of Khutse Game Reserve. Other than the rangers, our closest neighbours live in the village of Kaudwane, 5 km away. It is a tented camp run off solar power and has satellite wifi and even though it is fairly isolated, it has all the necessary infrastructure to live comfortably and to enjoy the beautiful landscape and sunsets.

For our field camp in Khutse, we are looking for a highly motivated, English and Setswana speaking, experienced, hands-on and hospitable Camp Manager (100%). The person has the overall responsibility for the running of the camp to a high standard of service, to facilitate and maintain the daily operations of the camp, and for camp maintenance and repair including the solar – and water system, tents and fences, IT system. Furthermore, we have a research vehicle fleet which always needs to be in good condition, therefore the camp manager is also responsible for the coordination of all vehicles. Further duties of the camp manager include the logistics and procurement of camp supplies and other camp administration, including managing local staff.

To be our camp manager of choice, you should be a hands-on, technic-advers, pro-active, enthusiastic & hospitable manager with at least 5 years field camp management experience. Moreover, you should be fluent in English and Setswana, have technical knowledge in 4*4 vehicles, hands-on experience in electrics, especially solar panel systems, an understanding of satellite internet system, have experience in managing staff, excellent organisational and logistic skill and overall a great passion and capability of working under remote field conditions in Khutse.

It is a full-time position based in Khutse with an initial 3-year contract with option of renewal with starting date on as soon as possible. Application deadline: 31st March 2024.
