LEC NEWS

Follow my leader! But female lions do not actually Follow my leader! But female lions do not actually establish a hierarchy that allows some of them to reproduce more than others. This egalitarianism is highly unusual in animals that live in social groups. It is in stark contrast to the mating behaviour of other status-conscious carnivores - and to the behaviour of male lions!

Do you remember back on 15 January we shared with Do you remember back on 15 January we shared with you the exciting news that we had collared a young male lion who we suspected was part of a dispersing group.
Here you can see his GPS movements over the first 3 weeks (the red dots) from the point where we had fitted the collar (the black circle). As you can see he is ranging over a really wide area (70km from north to south) and moving in loops, which could be indicative of dispersal behaviour as lions conduct recce's looking for the best place to disperse to.

We had a very fruitful stakeholder meeting this we We had a very fruitful stakeholder meeting this week. In doing so, on the one hand, we expressed our gratitude for their pivotal role in supporting LEC in the implementation of community projects. On the other hand, we talked about the projects in the past year and in the coming year. Of course, all in compliance with COVID- 19 rules. We look forward to further cooperation.
