{"id":2230,"date":"2025-08-08T15:03:01","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T13:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/?page_id=2230"},"modified":"2025-09-25T12:42:37","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T10:42:37","slug":"research-projects","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/research\/research-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What data are collected to better understand the way of life of leopards and lions?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Satellite telemetry data for analyses of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/research\/research-projects\/predator-movement-and-habitat-selection\/\">movement patterns and habitat selection<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/satellite-telemetry-and-tracking-with-indigenous-san\/\">Tracking and interpretation of spoor by the San<\/a> to document movement patterns and behaviour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Direct observations of behaviours of the large predators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/research\/research-projects\/prey-availability\/\">Prey availability<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/research\/research-projects\/diet\/\">analyses of prey spectrum by means of spoor and faeces analyses as well as prey remains<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photos of spot patterns on leopards and whisker spots on lions to create identification guides allowing for mark and recapture data to be collected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of camera traps to estimate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/research\/research-projects\/leopard-density\/\">leopard population density<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integration of camera traps, GPS telemetry, and traditional San tracking to analyse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/research\/research-projects\/population-dynamics\/\">population dynamics of leopards and lions<\/a>, demography, and social behaviour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyses of tissue samples for genetic&nbsp;information of the study animals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitoring of health status by observations and tissue analyses in the&nbsp;laboratory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supervision of ordered translocations&nbsp;and evaluation of the resulting effects&nbsp;on the system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopard.ch\/index.php\/en\/research\/research-projects\/beekeeping\/\">Beekeeping for People and the Planet<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surveys of stakeholders \/ interested&nbsp;parties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We are working closely with various partners in our research project to ensure the best quality and standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What data are collected to better understand the way of life of leopards and lions?
